Tribunal throws out LP’s drug trafficking suit against Tinubu

The presidential election petition tribunal headed by Justice Haruna Tsamani, has struck out the drug trafficking suit filed by Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party–LP against president Bola Tinubu.

Labour Party–LP in the suit had argued that Tinubu was involved in a drug trafficking case in which he forfeited the whooping sum $460,000 to the United States of America government.

The justice Tsamani in his ruling agreed with the submission of Tinubu’s counsel, citing a letter issued by the US Embassy in 2003.

The allegation is one of the grounds upon which the petition of the LP was instituted against the declaration of Tinubu as president-elect after Nigeria’s February 25 controversial presidential election.

The embassy had communicated with Tafa Balogun, the then Inspector-General of Police that a records check carried out to establish Tinubu’s involvement in drug crimes came back negative.

The tribunal however, proceeded to read the contents of the letter from the US embassy in Nigeria.
