A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, says he had long left the party because it lacks what it takes to win elections in the state.
Abe also said that he did not author the purported resignation letter that is been circulated online.
“I didn’t author the purported resignation letter in circulation but everybody knows I had long left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. The Party does not have what it takes to win elections in the state.”
Abe who is a former representative of the Rivers Southeast senatorial district at the national assembly, had informed his supporters last week that his name will be on the ballot for the 2023 governorship election.
Recall that the lawmaker on June while addressing newsmen against the rumour that he has dumped the party, explained that he would not participate in a process (APC governorship primary) that is not fair and transparent but said he is still a member of APC.
Newsband also reported that there is pressure on the lawmaker by some stakeholders in the state to defect to Labour Party as this is the only way he can achieve his governorship ambition.
Abe has been in a serious running battle with the former minister of transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi over the soul of APC in the state.
Amaechi was accused of influencing the party’s primaries which produced his ally and business mogul, Tonye Cole as governorship candidate of APC in the state against the wish of party members.
