The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims of zoning the party’s 2023 presidential ticket.

The clarification is coming after reports on Saturday, that President Muhammadu Buhari, after meeting with the party leaders and presidential aspirants, had asked the party to zone the presidential ticket to the southern region.

Muhammad Nata’ala Keffi, Spokesman of the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, described the reports as false, mischievous and misleading adding that zoning wasn’t part of the discussion.

In a statement on Sunday, Keffi said the president only advised the candidates to opt for consensus as it would help the party reduce the number of candidates.

He said, “From the quotations from Mr President’s speech, nowhere was zoning mentioned.

“We call on the public to disregard any information about the zoning of the presidential contest to any part country.

“What Mr President want is the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians; no more, no less.”
