No fewer than one million youths will on Saturday welcome the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to Owerri, the Imo state capital.

Checks by our correspondent indicated that youths from the neighbouring states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Rivers and Ebonyi are also entering into the state to welcome a man who has been described by many as “a politician with a conscience.”

Most of the hotels in the state capital are reportedly fully booked even as thousands of transporters had been engaged for their services between Friday and Saturday.

A source familiar with the development said, “it is going to be a massive outing tomorrow. We want to use tomorrow to show to the world that Obi is the darling of the youths of Nigeria. People from Abia, Rivers, Enugu, Rivers and Anambra are trooping into the state ahead of the tomorrow’s engagements.

“Also, we have people who have arrived the state from Canada, Lagos and Abuja. You know His Excellency will be in Owerri tomorrow for two things, the commissioning of the Labour Party secretariat and a leadership program which the Convener arrived from Canada with his team. Most of the hotels are fully booked.

“The young people are eager to take back their country and they see Obi as the true ambassador for a new Nigeria. Nobody was paid nor mobilized. Youths are taking care of the logistics by themselves. It has never happened before. We hope the momentum increases.”
