Aminat Yusuf, the best-graduating student from Lagos State University, has been offered automatic employment by the government of Edo State.

Yusuf, who studied law, made history as the first student in the institution’s 40-year existence to graduate with a perfect CGPA of 5.0.

Governor Godwin Obaseki made the announcement on Monday at the Government House in Benin.

While expressing his congratulations to Yusuf, who hails from Edo state, the governor revealed that the government had reached out to her parents and offered her the position of automatic employment, which they gladly accepted.

Obaseki emphasized the state government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of human resources in the public service, stating, “We have prioritized this and will get the best to work in the state. We have done everything within our power as a government to ensure that we create an enabling environment for work and as a result, we also want the best hands.”

Recognising Yusuf as a worthy ambassador of the state, the governor assured her of further support and rewards for her outstanding achievement. He added that in addition to the employment offer, the government would provide her with other forms of assistance.

The state head of service, Anthony Okungbowa, also expressed the government’s intention to retain Yusuf by proposing that she serves in Edo state after completing her law school program and National Youth Service Corps program.

In a letter, Okungbowa explained that this measure aims to prevent the risk of losing her talents.

Yusuf’s incredible accomplishment has gained recognition beyond Edo state. Last week, the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, presented her with a cash reward of N10 million in appreciation of her remarkable academic feat.
