A suspected cable thief, has been electrocuted to death at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State.

The thief was killed near the Faculty of Education building, close to the Department of Economics on Monday.

The criminal was said to have finished cutting a cable from a high-tension pole before he was suddenly electrocuted as power was restored by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

The lifeless body was discovered dangling on the high-tension pole on Wednesday morning where personnel of the electricity distribution company were seen evacuating the corpse from the pole.

While confirming the development, the Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, lamented the continuous attacks on electricity installation across the South-East.

Ezeh said, “Activities of vandals have been a big challenge for our company, as we continue to experience attacks on our infrastructure almost on a daily basis, thereby subjecting our customers to untold hardship, with the company incurring revenue loss.

“It is very unfortunate that this young man, who would have engaged in something more meaningful, had to end his life this way. I hope this serves as a deterrent to those engaging in such criminal acts.”
