British mercenary Josh Griffiths faces losing his leg after it was “torn to pieces” with tendons and nerves badly damaged in a mortar attack in Ukraine after he quit his job and sold his car to go to join Kiev forces.

The 30-year-old has already returned to the UK where he will undergo surgery, and faces a 50% chance of his leg fully recovering according to doctors, but insists said he did not regret going to Ukraine.

Griffiths also explained a compatriot he met in Poland advised him not to serve in the Armed Forces, noting that among the Ukrainian soldiers there are a large number of civilians who “played too much Call of Duty.”
