The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a certificate of return to Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The certificate of return was presented to senator Adeleke by the INEC National Commissioner, Supervising Osun, Ogun and Oyo states, Prof. Kunle Ajayi,

Meanwhile, in his acceptance speech after receiving the certificate at a brief ceremony held at Osun INEC head office in Osogbo, Adeleke dedicated his victory at the poll to the memory of his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke and the people of Osun state.

Recall that in a tweet on Tuesday, Davido had lamented that 48 hours after his uncle was declared winner of the election, he is yet to be issued certificate of return.

Replying in a statement, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) of the commission, Festus Okoye, said INEC has up to 14 days to issue an election winner a certificate.

He said, “Those that intervene and play roles in the electoral process should try to have basic knowledge of the constitutive legal instruments that guide and regulate the conduct of elections.

“The commission is a public trust and a creation of the Constitution and the law and must be seen to respond to public demands for transparency and openness.

“The commission will continue to uphold the basic tenets of transparency, openness and inclusivity in the conduct of elections and the delivery of electoral services,” Okoye said.
