Adequate security arrangements have been made by the Federal Government to protect lives and property during the June 18 Ekiti State governorship election, Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola said yesterday.

He spoke with reporters in the company of the Inspector-General Alkali Usman, after the National Security Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja yesterday.

Aregbeola said: “Appropriate preparation is put in place for the elections coming up in Ekiti, this month, and Osun, next month, principally by the Nigeria Police and supported by other security agencies, and to some extent, the military. That’s the long and short of it.”

IG Usman, on his own part, said: “As for how many policemen are deployed in Ekiti or Osun, I can say we are deploying 17,374 policemen”.
