THE ARREST OF A MAN FOR A CIVIL WRONG IS NOT A REASON TO CELEBRATE
1 min readNo matter how upset you may be with someone, the arrest of an individual for a civil wrong is troubling. It represents an abuse of the legal system and suggests the potential influence of corruption. Celebrating such an arrest is a grave mistake.
This brings us to the alleged arrest of Mr. Chidi Uzoma, also known as Uncle Baba. What was the offense for which he was arrested? Who are the officers involved in this arrest? Why was he apprehended in Lagos and then taken to Abuja for questioning? If the supposed offense occurred in Lagos, shouldn’t the police conduct their investigation there, where he would be charged in court if charges are to be filed?
The only apparent reason for this jurisdictional manipulation seems to be that the officers involved may have a personal interest in the case. This raises serious concerns about corruption and abuse of power, and it opens up the possibility that he may need to sue everyone involved in his arrest. The entire situation has the unmistakable odor of misconduct and corruption.
